AI and design / decorating

We’re in a fascinating moment (and somewhat terrifying too). With the rise of AI tools across every industry—from healthcare to hospitality—it’s no surprise that interior design and home renovations are getting the AI treatment too.

But what does that mean for everyday homes? Can AI actually help us decorate our homes?

Let’s take a look.

From Mood Boards to Room Plans (in seconds)

Gone are the days of endless scrolling and late-night Pinterest rabbit holes—AI tools like Interior AI or RoomGPT can now generate entire room concepts from a single photo or prompt. Want to see what your lounge might look like in Japandi style? Or visualise your bedroom with a new layout? Just upload a photo and the tool creates a reimagined space in seconds.

It’s like having a design assistant on call 24/7.

Helping You Visualise Before You Commit

Renovating can be stressful. Will the finish you love online work in real life? Will that tile clash with your timber floors? Some AI platforms are being used to preview materials, colour palettes and layouts with surprising realism—making it easier to experiment without the cost or commitment.

Some of our customers use simple tools to pair our furniture with wall colours, rugs or even lighting. While it’s no substitute for seeing our pieces in person, it does give people confidence to explore their style more freely.

AI design tools don’t replace a trained designer and we don’t think they ever will or should. They can’t feel the texture of a woven rug, or understand how a space feels when the afternoon sun filters through the blinds. There is something deeply satisfying about talking to a trained designer and sharing your very personal journey with them, as opposed to a screen.

But what these apps can do is speed up the decision-making process if you are doing this on your own, offer ideas you hadn’t thought of, and gently guide you toward styles that suit your needs. For those who feel unsure where to start, it can be a very helpful launchpad.

Where is this going?

We can see a future where AI helps you match furniture with flooring, predict light and shade in your space, or even recommend styling based on your mood or season. But while tech might be clever, your home is still about connection—and that’s something no algorithm can replicate. Scraping the human side of everything means losing meaningful connection at large, whereas we believe the world needs more human connection than ever.

Want to try it for yourself? Here are a few tools people are playing with:

 – Interior AI – great for quick room mockups
RoomGPT – easy layout ideas
REimagineHome – full room redesigns from photos

We have personally tried it for ourselves and the results weren’t the nicest to start with! ;)

Our take?

AI won’t replace human intuition. But it can spark ideas, simplify decisions, and make the design journey feel a little less daunting. And when that process leads to a space filled with thoughtful, well-made pieces (like ours)? Even better.
