Softness. Texture. Warmth.
An upholstered bed can change the feeling of a bedroom quite quickly. It can make the room feel softer, more relaxed and a little more inviting. And sometimes, you just know that fabric is what you want. But choosing fabric can also come with a few questions:
Will it be easy to look after?
What happens if something spills?
Will I have to get it treated after I buy it?
These are all things worth thinking about when choosing furniture for your home.
When you love the look of fabric
At mubu, we make a range of beds that combine solid timber with upholstery.
The Millie Bed pairs a solid American White Oak frame with a soft, upholstered bedhead. The Zoe Bed takes a more fully upholstered approach, with fabric covering the rails as well as the bedhead. And the Markus Bed gives you the option of a fabric or leather bedhead with its solid timber frame.
They each have a different feel, but they all bring that softness that fabric does so well.
But furniture is meant to be lived with
We don't think beautiful furniture should feel too precious. Your bedroom is used every day. Kids climb on beds. Pets find their favourite spots. Coffee occasionally goes somewhere it shouldn't. Life happens.
That's why the practical side of choosing fabric matters just as much as how it looks. Until recently, customers choosing upholstered furniture could have their fabric treated after purchasing their furniture. This meant organising a separate treatment once the furniture was already at home. We've now got another option.
Fabric protection, before your furniture arrives
All Warwick fabrics available through mubu can now be ordered with OnGuard treatment already applied. The treatment happens to the fabric before it is made into your furniture, so there's no need for you to organise a separate treatment afterwards.
OnGuard works by creating a barrier around the individual fibres of the fabric, helping to repel water, oil and soil-based stains. Warwick also confirms the treatment incorporates antimicrobial protection. So if something is accidentally spilled, you have a little more time to deal with it. It doesn't make the fabric completely stain-proof, and spills should still be attended to as soon as possible according to the fabric's care instructions.
But it's one less thing for you to organise later. It also means you don't have to be afraid of lighter fabrics
One of the nice things about this option is that choosing fabric doesn't necessarily mean choosing the safest or darkest colour. Warwick’s OnGuard can be used on most of its woven fabrics, including lighter colours and natural-fibre textures.
So if you've always loved a soft neutral, a textured fabric or something a little lighter, you can consider those options without immediately ruling them out because of everyday life.
Of course, the right fabric will still depend on how you use your home, and we'll always help you choose something that suits the piece and your lifestyle.
A little more ease
For us, that's really what this is about. Not making fabric furniture indestructible, not telling you that spills won't happen. There are options to just make it a little easier to live with something you love. Because if you've chosen a beautiful upholstered bed, we want you to enjoy it — not spend your time worrying about keeping it perfect.
Made to be lived with, not just looked at.
