If you are anything like us, watching series on Netflix sounds like a distant memory from our pre-kids and pre-business era! Yet once in a blue moon, there is this tiny window of opportunity that presents itself which makes us wonder: what series trending now in Australia should I watch to make the most out of this all too rare downtime?

This is what we found: 

The Lincoln Lawyer

Mickey Haller isn’t like other lawyers. This hotshot runs his law firm from the back seat of his Lincoln as he takes on LA’s biggest and smallest cases. In Season 1, we meet Mickey shortly after he’s recovered from surgery and a subsequent pill addiction. When his colleague unexpectedly passes away, Mickey gets back into the legal game, inheriting all of his cases. Working out of his car isn’t the only thing that sets this lawyer apart — Mickey takes family business to a whole new level as he works with his prosecutor ex-wife, Maggie (Neve Campbell), and his other ex-wife and assistant, Lorna (Becki Newton).

The Witcher

Season 3 is out now after a long hiatus…The Witcher is a fantasy drama web television series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix. It is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than monsters and beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a special gift, the three must learn to navigate independently the increasingly volatile Continent. 

Survival of the Thickest 

Survival of the Thickest follows Mavis Beaumont, who finds herself back on the dating market while she is having to rebuild her life as a struggling stylist.

The series is built on a strong foundation with its writing of the main character. Mavis is front and center for a reason as she is a strong yet at times vulnerable woman who is trying to navigate through life chasing this dream which is thrown a massive curveball. This character’s resilience in the writing was a huge strong suit in making Mavis work. 

Tom Segura: Sledgehammer

This is Segura’s fifth Netflix special, following 2014’s Completely Normal, 2016’s Mostly Stories, 2018’s Disgraceful and 2020’s Ball Hog. Based on the success of those hours, he signed a two-special deal with Netflix in 2022, of which this is the first. Here he largely focuses his material around his increasingly more famous friends and his family.

Black Mirror

In a world in which the creator of the Oculus headset claims to have invented a new virtual reality system – called NerveGear – that kills players for real when they are bumped off in a game, it is clear that Black Mirror has its work increasingly cut out.
